Roma Piranesiana: Piranesi's maps of Rome

Opening: 6:30 pm, 14 December 2011

Via di Montoro 24, 00186 Rome

There have been numerous exhibits of Piranesi's renowned work, showcasing prints from his Carceri d'Invenzione, Le Antichità Romane, Il Campo Marzio dell'Antica Roma, and other works, but none have focused specifically on his maps of ancient and contemporary Rome. Original prints of these maps will constitute the major part of Roma Piranesiana. This will be the name of an accompanying catalog, which will include a discussion of the debt that Piranesi owed to the cartography of Giambattista Nolli.
